Zip Technologies: Pros and Cons

Since the creation of the FDD 3.5 “1.44 MB high-density, a lot of time has passed and this type of media has not undergone any changes during this period, while many details of the computer” survived “the revolution. The growing volumes of files and the need for them reliable storage and transfer required the emergence of an alternative device that could eventually supersede this standard accepted at the moment around the world.

Standalone Zip drives, released over three years ago by Iomega, have gained widespread popularity due to their ease of use for transferring data between systems. Unlike other companies that have taken the path of creating media compatible with FDD 3.5 “at the lower level (increasing the amount of information stored on the media while maintaining the ability to use old 1.44 MB floppy disks), Iomega has created a completely new device that resembles in its structure, a hard drive with removable media, whose work was based on the Bernoulli principle.

However, the main PC manufacturers did not recognize the special format of these drives and did not use it to create system BIOS and operating systems. In addition, the storage of information on Zip was not so reliable, as presented by the manufacturing company itself.
