Z-tracks

In devices with a moving coil there are no pre-fixed positions. Instead, they use a special guidance system (positioning), which accurately brings the heads to the desired track.

The system of precise guidance of the heads on the tracks is called a servo drive, and for its operation a feedback signal is required that carries information about the real relative position of the tracks and heads.

Temperature fluctuations do not affect the accuracy of the drive. When compressing and expanding disks (rotation, temperature), all changes in their sizes are monitored by a servo drive and the positions of the heads are adjusted. Continue reading

Zip Technologies: Pros and Cons

Since the creation of the FDD 3.5 “1.44 MB high-density, a lot of time has passed and this type of media has not undergone any changes during this period, while many details of the computer” survived “the revolution. The growing volumes of files and the need for them reliable storage and transfer required the emergence of an alternative device that could eventually supersede this standard accepted at the moment around the world. SPD EEPROM Specification

In addition to the description of the transmission interface, I2C information, the PC SDRAM Serial Presence Detect (SPD) Specification specification defines the information recorded in the EEPROM by the manufacturer. The need for such a specification was caused by the fact that the main problems when installing SDRAM in computer systems are associated with incorrect interaction between the BIOS on the motherboard and the EEPROM on the memory module.

The fact is that many Taiwanese motherboard manufacturers using the Intel 440BX chipset install their own BIOS, which has the function of disabling the reading of information from the EEPROM. In this case, the system parameters are set manually when entering SETUP, or the BIOS itself sets the system parameters for working with standard memory. Continue reading
